Design and develop a small portable alarm monitoring device for a home security device supplier.
Our client, a leading home security device supplier, subcontracted Emutex to design and develop a small portable alarm monitoring device. The device listens for a variety of common alarms and alerts registered users of active alarms through SMS text messages and phone calls.
Emutex leveraged the expertise of an electronics company in Germany to design and develop the hardware while developing the Linux based embedded software. The device uses a combination of GSM-mobile and audio-codec chipsets. Powered by mains supply it includes a battery to sustain its operation during unexpected mains power failure.
Key features included registration of users using SMS text message, software DSP to filter and detect common alarm tones, reporting of alarm events by SMS text message, reporting of alarm event and live audio by GSM phone call and recording of alarm event and audio for future retrieval and listening. The software was coded in high performance real-time C for embedded Linux.
